Let’s get our hands dirty. So what’s up?

paris

“paris” is finally getting finalized. Sorry for all who waited but I had some personal motivation to keep this thing quite for a while not only because I had lots of other things to do which is always a lame excuse.
I will participate with “paris” in all possible short film festivals. Also I want to show it to some people who deserved this. Not to mention that I will go to paris to thank the staff once again and give them a copy of the final version. Don’t expect the final to be so much different from the version I might have showed you already. It simply was boosted in quality. But like a good wine I needed some time and confirmation on the way it was done.

music clip

I hope to do some music clips with some bands or musicians I admire for their talent and work. First of all there is a clip planned with my friends from “the babylon underground". I hope for the positive response on the location so we get started in February.

Paris Part 2: The revenge of sad people!

Don’t take the title serious. But I AM happy to announce that I will keep my concept entitled “cities” which resulted from the work of “paris". So there will be another city produced this year, I won’t tell you here now which because everything is still in preproduction state but look forward for more soon.

Technical improvements in workflow

I still doing postproduction next to producing. It’s the other part of me. I haven’t decided if it is the lower or higher part yet. Anyhow I finally want to have a good and stable “workflow for the poor man” established which enables to produce in good quality cheaply and fast but still allows parts of the project to go uncompressed or as little compressed as possible for vfx/post etc. I’m not sure if this will be a total uncompressed offline workflow or something like a hybrid between a little compression online codec like proRes, DNxHD, CanopusHQ, Cineform and how they all are called and an offline.
This highly depends on the kind of project, how much vfx is involved and therefore on the cameras primary output. So far I will keep looking onto prosumer cameras like Sony-PMW EX1/EX2 etc. in combination with a 35mm adapter in favor of a cheaply available digital film camera, like the red for example, simply because it should be easier to handle in terms of workflows with limited hardware capacities. If for a reason our facility decides for a bigger workflow I will be keen to look into it but as far it goes now this doesn’t fit in my “poor man’s” concept which I want to keep in favor of technical negligibility which won’t make a better piece.

Super8

Now it gets sentimental. We just talked about digital workflows and now we jump to super8. I still have great interest in this format. I haven’t had time to test roll the 7265 Plus-X reversal B/W stock but I surely will. Just the the planned concept of the project, the music clip, it was intended for didn’t fit for this medium anymore. Despite of the opinion of some purist I look for a digital workflow here as well. Although I love enthusiastic type of works like straighon8 [1] in a artistic approach to the medium I still want to use Super8 commercially or let’s say professionally in first place. I doubt this will end in a Super8 DI which really is possible (!) though. More to come as soon as I worked with the material.
